Computer engineering is mainly focus on software development. In general, they design, evaluate and test the programmes. In is very important in information technology market nowadays. Every company trying to improve the working efficiency and involve in network marketing, they need to install the suitable programme to achieve the goal. For computer engineers, it means all of them are the clients, so you can try to imagine the demand.

Graduates from this course usually work as software developer, network administrator and java developer. Demand for ICT professionals in the country is still growing and ICT jobs are in higher demand such as software development managers, lead software developers, UNIX specialists, senior system engineers, IT managers, web sphere application developers, system engineers, network administrators and helpdesk analysts. National ICT Association of Malaysia (Pikom) expects a 5% increase in an ICT professional’s average salary in 2012, to RM6800 a month.

Among the engineering fields, it has the second highest salary (below the oil and gas industry). 

In local, these courses are mainly categorized into three major:
  • Artificial Intelligence - Working on intelligent systems for applications such as robotics, language understanding, knowledge acquisition, reasoning, computer vision and pattern recognition
  • Computer Systems - Working on design and analysis of computers including computer architecture, computer networks and integrated circuits

  • Systems and Computations - Working on the integration of both hardware and software into coherent systems
The demand for all the three majors is high, however the expertise on computer system will be slightly more popular in job market.
