Do you prefer wearing a helmet, working in a scorching heat, building a structure than working in an office cubicle?  Is math your favourite topic in school? If so, a career as a civil engineer may be for you.
Civil Engineers work in a fast-moving, challenging and rewarding profession. Their work involves design, construction and management. You could be involved in seeing through a project from design stage to construction and completion. These projects could be highways, tunnels, dams and major buildings.
Amongst all branches of engineering such mechanical, petroleum and automotive, the range and application of civil engineering is the broadest and the most visible. Civil engineering graduates also able to work as site supervisor, design enginners or draught person.
Many people wonder among the four main engineering, which one has the highest pay. Some say chemical, some say mechanic, but according to survey is almost same. Engineers’ salary mainly related to experiences, qualification and capability. Determine which field is more suitable to you and make yourself more competitive is far more important than choosing the field. If we really want to compare the field, the most lucrative should be the software engineering.
Apart from that, there is a misconception that engineering are extremely high salary job. Some people may tell you they can earn up to 6 digits. This is just because the gap between high skilled professionals and ordinary professionals is very big. It is a phenomenon generally happen in developing country; in China the difference is even much bigger. Anyway, engineer still earn higher than average.
The numbers of engineer is still insufficient, thus it is predicted that demand of engineer in Malaysia will keep increasing for several years. Even though highly in demand and highly paid, but among the professionals, they draw a comparatively low remuneration package (according to president of IEM). But one thing attractive is it has high employment rate.
