Known as the man who recites poems and sings with the saying “float like a butterfly and sting like a bee”, he captured the world heavyweight boxing title three times and become a champion forever.
Born in the United States of America, named Cassius Day, he
entered world-class boxing at sixteen years old. Many did not think that this
African American would stand a chance against famous boxers like Sony Liston
who killed a bulled with a punch, George Foreman and Joe Frazier. However, this
young man who used to wake up at 5.00 a.m every morning and did his work out
for four hours proved the world wrong. Refusing to go Vietnam to serve the
American Armed Forces, he was put in the jail. Yet, this bad publicity did not
deter his winning spirit practicing o the hilt in the boxing arena. His
Hispanic coach Angalo Dundee saw in him a young man capable of doing wonders.
Embracing Islam, he took the name Muhammad Ali and this
prompted him to show the world his superiority.
Being paid less as a challenger, he did not mince his words when he promised to
win the world title. Driving o the boxing arena on his own and preparing by
himself, he broke the world boxing record by bringing his opponent down in the
third round with his stunning performance. Dancing around his opponent, he
punched and taunted his opponent to the middle of the ring and brought him
down. The world saw a new champion emerging to make waves in the world of
boxing.
His next opponent was George Foreman who had never lost any
boxing event. The sprightly Ali took only fifteen minutes to bring Foreman down
and grabbed the world champion again.
Next on the list was British born boxer Joe Bugner who came
to be known for his “Russian Tank” job which brought opponent down in the first
round, but Ali went on the fifteen round
with Bugner and won by technical knockout(T.K.O).
Joe Frazier told the world he would stop Ali forever.
However, the singing boxer Muhammad Ali faced Frazier thrice and won all the
championships. Ali became the only man in the world to win consequently. HE
travelled around the world in promoting his styled boxing. Don king the boxer
promoted of the world had only praises for the great American who came from a
humble background.
He brought new meaning to the boxing world. The money he
earned amounted to billions he gave it to fund hospitals, schools, universities
and orphanage around the world. Indeed, Mohammad Ali is a true champion of
boxing and mankind.
